Seeing the World with family & friends
Wed. night we set sail from Ft Lauderdale on the Star Princess. This is my graduation cruise since I became a Commadore with them after taking an intense online course. Arrived at the pier around 1-2pm and there was not wait to board. Had a lunch, went on a spa tour where we signed up for the unlimited pass to the Thermal Suite. After the muster drill we unpacked and Dwight went to do a seaweed wrap and I had a facial. Then went to the buffet for dinner and to see the welcome aboard show. There was a great comedian that will preform a full show Fri. Can't wait to see him.
Today was a day for R & R. Dwight got up and walked and then brought me breakfast in bed! After we ate we headed to the spa and make the rounds of the steam rooms in the Thermal suite. Then we were out at the pool. After a shower and dinner we went to the Broadway style show 'Destination Anywhere'. It was very good. Then at 10:30 we went up by the pool to watch 'The Toursit' for Movies Under the Stars. Very nice out and a good movie. We anchored out of the private island Princess Cay today but we decided to stay on the ship. I did get some pictures of the island.
Tomorrow is a day at sea. Sat. we will be in St Thomas.
Had a wonderful time on the Destiny. The 2 seminars agents are required to take were very informative. Ocho Rios was very nice. The Enchanted Gardens had some awesome waterfalls and the Aviary was too cool! To have all those birds eating out of the palm of your hand is a blast. I would have loved to have stayed in there longer! Dunn's River Falls is alot different then when I was there 24 years ago! It was not a commercialized then. The climb took about 45 minutes with it starting at the beach and then climbing up. Cindy and I didn't do it and I am glad. I would have been on of the one's they had to take out in a wheelchair! We saw a couple bruised up ladies. I saw one twist her ankle right in front of me. The tour guide and driver were very good and I would recommend the Enchanted Gardens and Dunn's River Falls excursion.
When we got to Grand Cayman and looked out the window there were 5 other ships in port! We decided it was going to be so packed in town that we would just stay on the ship and chill. So after breakfast we sat out by the pool and read for awhile.
I thought this ship was a little dated and could use some refurbishing. The bathroom was pink, the shower had very low pressure and most of the time it was boiling hot water. The hair dryer on the wall looked more like a vaccum! The cabin had lots of space but there really was not enough storage. Food was good and the service was excellant as always. The first Broadway stlye show was really good. It was one of the better ones I have seen. The 2nd one I had already seen before. The male lead singer looked familiar and found out he has been on Broadway and TV. See pictures for his bio.
I met lots of nice agents and some I hope to remain friends with. We had some great times and made lots of memories. I think I got Cindy hooked on cruising now!!
Next trip Dec. 16 on the Celebrity Century for 4 nights with my hubby and nephew.
Sunday morning I had a meeting from 9am to 11:30am and the rest of the day was free. It was formal night and everyone looked very sharp at dinner. The lobster and prime rib was outstanding. The first musical production show was tonight and it was on of the best I have seen on Carnival ships.
Today was our first port, Ocho Rios, Jamaica. I have ported in Montego Bay many times but this was the first time in Ocho Rios. We took the Enchanted Garden and Dunn’s River Falls excursion. The Gardens were very nice with some pretty flora and awesome waterfalls. There was an aviary that we went in and they gave us birdseed and the birds were eating out of our hands! Literally. It was so cool. One guy in our group had one sit on his shoulder and pooped on him! We told him that was good luck! We then went to Dunn’s River Falls. It is nothing like when I was there in 1986. It is so commercialized now that I didn’t even recognize the place. I didn’t climb the falls but some people on our bus did and had a great time. It is a very nice place to see. We stopped at the Taj Mahal Shopping Center for a quick shopping break. Had to get some Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee and a tshirt from the Hard Rock Ocho Rios!
Tonight for dinner we did the Chef’s Table. This is limited to 12 people and only happens once on a 5 night sailing. I really don’t know how to describe this experience but to say it was OUTSTANDING! We met the Executive Chef Porvin Gama at 6:30pm and were taken to the galley where we were given 4 appetizers and a glass of champagne. Then we walked through the galley and saw them preparing the dinners. He took us to the pastry area where a lady in our group got to make a Warm Chocolate Melting Cake. We were then taken to the Library where they had our dinner set up. They took the group’s picture with the Chef when we arrived in the Library and then gave us all a copy when we were finished. They had a personalized copy of the menu rolled up for us and name tags made out. The dinner was 7 courses and included wine. The meals were so elegantly prepared that you didn’t want to eat them and mess it up. After the 3 hours of food, the chef gave us a autographed copy of the Carnival Creations cookbook. There is a charge of $75 per person for this but all in our group were very happy with our evening and thought it was well worth the price. It was an experience we all will never forget.
Grand Cayman is tomorrow and we don’t have a shore excursion planned. We are sleeping in, maybe take the tender to town and do a little shopping then back to the ship to lay around by the pool. Will post a rap up and more pictures when I get back.
Yesterday was a great day at Carnival Headquarters. Did some hands on training on the agent booking site and they are coming out with some new things ot make it easier for agents. We had a great breakfast, snack, lunch and another snack before they took us to a resturant in Mary Brickell Village shopping area in Miami. It was called Dolores, But You Can Call Me Lolita. My friend Cindy who came along with me spent the day shopping and took a sightseeing cruise. She met us at the restaurant and I almost didn’t recongnize her…she had a makeover! Dinner was good and then back to the hotel.
This morning we had breakfast and a short presentation before heading out to the Port of Miami. We went to tour the Carnival Liberty and have lunch on it. This is one of the Conquest class ships and is very nice. For those who have sailed the Conquest out of Galveston, it is the same class ship but the Liberty is decorated more elegant than the Conquest. They have 2 Captain’s Suite at the front corners of deck 9 that are very nice and exclusive to this ship. They served us a nice and lunch then we got off of that ship, back on the bus and then went over to the next terminal to get on the Carnival Destiny for our 5 night cruise to Ocho Rios, Jamacia and Georgetown, Grand Cayman.
We were so late getting on the ship that our luggage was almost at the cabin before we were! If you are in a hurry to get your luggage just get there late and it will be there quick! Our oceanview cabin is nice with lots of room. The storage space is not as adequate as it is on other ships. There is bascially 2 small closets for hanging clothes, 1 with shelves that have the safe and bedding for the sofa bed in it, so basically only 2 of those shelves can be used. There are 3 big drawers and 2 small shelves but the counter space in the cabin is very good. The bathroom is a little outdated with a pink sink area and there is no storage space there at all. The shower is one of the larger ones though.
After the safety briefing, we unpacked then made our way to the Downbeat Lounge where Carnival had a cocktail party for us with drinks and appetizers. Most of the group have 8:15pm dining but 10 of us were at 6:00pm so we headed down after the party. We had a nice table looking out the back of the ship where we saw a beautiful sunset. After dinner Cindy and I headed to she shops, then to get our embarkation photo and finally to the casino. Of course the place was packed but we both left with more than we walked in with!
Tomorrow (Sunday) I have a training class from 9am to 11:30 or 12. Then the rest of the day free!! Lounge chairs by the pool here we come!!! Will write more Monday after the day in Ocho Rios.
