Icy Strait Point & Juneau

Icy Strait Point was not too impressive yesterday. There wasn’t anything to do unless you got an excursion and they were expensive. Some went on Bear Watching tours but didn’t see anything. EJ went down the Ziprider. The walk to the town of Hoonah was 1.3 miles one way but there was nothing to see when you got there. The ones who couldn’t walk that far paid $16 per person round trip to town and were very disappointed when nothing was there.
Now today in Juneau was another story. It did rain all day but that is normal. It didn’t matter much since we saw WHALES!! The tour was awesome! Again Captain Larry came through for us and we saw I think the same 3 or 4 whales several times. Two were together and came up right by our boat. It was amazing. Sea Lions, Dall Porpoise and Eagles were other wildlife we saw. Everyone had a good time. After the cruise, 6 people went to ride a helicopter and land on a glacier while the rest of us went to see Mendenhall Glacier by land! It is a beautiful site even though it is receding dramatically. Then a group of us went to eat at the Thane Ore House Salmon Bake. They had a salad bar, salmon, halibut, ribs, beans and cornbread. Delicious! There was a neat museum also with things from the mining days. There were also eagles flying around there.
Something that has really been strange is sunrise and sunset times. Today here in Juneau, the sun rose at 3:59am and set at 9:54pm. I have been waking up at 5:00 every morning and it is daylight. Guess with the 3 hour time difference, my body things it is time to get up.
Have seen to production shows onboard with the singers and dancers and they have been great. Skagway on Wed. Hope to see more eagles and maybe some bear and other things!
