St John, New Brunswick, Canada

The ship docked in St John before sunrise and it was a little cloudy. But as the sun came up the clouds went away. It turned out to be a beautiful day! Clear blue skies and warm temperatures. I did a Photorgraphy Tour led by a local photographer and it was good. He gave some really good tips and I even learned a couple things. We went to a beach, Reversing Falls, a waterfall and a fishing village. All very neat places. 21 others from the group went on a private tour to some small towns in the area. They ate lunch at a B & B and saw covered bridges, rode 3 ferries, saw lots of pumpkins and some pretty scenery. The color changes were not as good as we had hoped but you just can't guess what Mother Nature has in store.
Wed. we are at sea, so more Thurs. night from Halifax.

Bar Harbor, Maine

Today started off with drizzle and clouds but turned into a beautiful sunny day by the time our excursions started. We had people on 2 different excursions at 1:30 so we met in the atrium on the ship at 11:00am and all took the tender off together. Everyone split up and went shopping and had lunch before going to the tour meeting places. There were 5 of us on the Best of Bar Harbor tour and 18 were on the Historic Lighthouse Cruise. Luckily I was not on the cruise because the that group had a very rough ride and several people got sick. I told them to take Dramamine! They had a good time even though the waters were not cooperating. My tour went to the Lobster Oceanarium, The Turrets castle which is now part of the College of the Atlantic. Then we went to Acadia National Park and made a stop at Thunder Hole. The way the rock formations are when the water rushes in the sound it makes sounds like thunder. Then we went to the top of Cadillac Mountain and enjoyed the lovely views. We did get to see some colors but hope to see lots more in Canada. Mom took some of the pictures on here and I taught her pretty well. She got some good shots even through I had to delete a few of the ceiling and the floor of the boat! She said those waves threw that boat around!
Tomorrow a big group is doing a 6 hour Beautiful Colors of Fall private excursion and I am going on a Photogrpahy Tour of the Bay of Funday. So should be lots of good pictures tomorrow!

Portland, Maine

The weather was picture perfect when we arrived in Portland! Clear, blue skies and nice cool breeze. Temperatures in the high 60’s and with the wind it was nice. Most were bundled up in jackets and gloves, but I thought it felt wonderful! We got of the ship and boarded our coach for the Lighthouse of Maine shore excursion. Our guide was VERY good. A local that was a wealth of information. Drove all around the penisula that is Portland and was surprised that there is only 65,000 people in the city. Three lighthouses were on our agenda. Portland Breakwater Light, also know as ‘Bug Light’, Spring Point Light and Portland Head Light. Our guide knew everything about the structures and at the 3rd one we visited there was a small museum where we were given a private tour from the curator. The 2nd and 3rd one were on site of former forts so there were some remenants of them to see also. We also learned of a lighthouse out in the middle of the bay, Ram Island Light, that was just purchased by a local doctor for $190,000. He doesn’t have plans to open it but wanted to be sure it did not get into the wrong hands and still belong to the city. It would be hard to really do anything with it though, since you can only get to it during high tide. This tour was very informative and I would recommend it when visiting Portland. Tonight was formal night and everyone in the group cleaned up pretty well! There was a Broadway show at the theatre this evening and it was enjoyed by most of the group.
Tomorrow is a tender port, Bar Harbor. Until tomorrow…..
